Easy to start
A forgiving crop that is a good first step into mushroom farming.
Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus) is one of the easiest mushrooms to start with. It grows on chopped straw and many other agricultural residues, needs no composting, and suits both small growing rooms and larger farms.
Spawn Lab supplies vigorous grain spawn for oyster mushroom, produced from selected culture and inspected for healthy, clean mycelium before dispatch.
Typical cultivation values — results depend on substrate, climate and farm practice. Ask our team for guidance for your conditions.
A forgiving crop that is a good first step into mushroom farming.
Uses straw and other farm residues that are easy to source locally.
Grows in bags or racks, in a spare room or a dedicated shed.

Chop and soak the straw, then pasteurise or sterilise it and drain to the right moisture
Mix the spawn evenly through the cooled substrate and fill bags or beds
Keep bags warm and dark while the mycelium runs through the substrate
Open or slit the bags, raise humidity and give fresh air and light for fruiting
Plan spawning close to delivery and use the spawn as soon as practical.
Store in a clean, cool, shaded place — never in direct sun or a hot vehicle.
Look for healthy white mycelium; don’t use bags with unusual colours or smells.
Break up the spawn and spread it evenly through clean, cooled substrate.
